CySEC Joins Global Initiative for World Investor Week 2026

The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) has announced its active participation in the upcoming World Investor Week 2026, a global campaign orchestrated by the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO). Running from 5 to 11 October 2026, the initiative unites regulatory authorities and organisations across more than 100 countries with a shared mission: strengthening investors' financial resilience and protecting the public against emerging forms of digital deception.

Marking its eighth consecutive year of participation in the global event, CySEC has rolled out an extensive programme of awareness-raising and educational activities designed to reach diverse segments of the Cypriot population, from school-aged children to seasoned market participants.

A Multifaceted Educational Programme Across Cyprus

CySEC's strategy for World Investor Week 2026 extends far beyond a week of digital messaging. A core pillar of the initiative is the sixth cycle of CySEC's school lecture programme, which will run from October through December. This educational drive includes tailored presentations at primary, lower and upper secondary, and technical schools across Cyprus, alongside lectures at universities. Building on strong historical engagement—which previously saw CySEC officers visit 88 schools and educate 3,450 students—this year's curriculum will place special emphasis on the campaign's core themes.

To maximise public reach, CySEC has planned a dedicated social media campaign, television and radio appearances, and the publication of expert interviews and articles. Furthermore, the regulator is releasing a new Guide for Investors and a Smart Investor Handbook. All educational materials will be hosted on the Financial Education Portal, a dedicated section of CySEC's official website.

Regulated entities, universities, and other institutional partners are also being mobilised to help disseminate these crucial messages throughout the domestic market.

Tackling Digital Deception and Promoting Investor Resilience

The urgency of CySEC's campaign is underscored by rapidly evolving market and technological landscapes. CySEC Chairman George Karatzias highlighted the shifting nature of contemporary investment risks, noting that investors today must contend not only with traditional market volatility but also with sophisticated digital scams.

Mr Karatzias urged the public to adhere to fundamental safeguards: conducting independent research before investing, avoiding unrealistic promises of high returns with zero risk, and exclusively engaging with licensed professionals.

IOSCO's core messages for 2026 centre on two critical fronts:

  • Investor Resilience: Encouraging market discipline, proper portfolio diversification, and the avoidance of impulsive investment decisions.
  • Digital Deception and Scam Alerts: Equipping the public with the tools to recognise the warning signs and red flags associated with online investment fraud.

CySEC's own internal research indicates that significant challenges remain in helping the Cypriot public identify online scams at an early stage. To bridge this knowledge gap, CySEC has developed interactive online quizzes, allowing individuals to test their financial literacy and risk awareness before committing capital.

Strategic Alignment with National Financial Literacy Goals

CySEC's unwavering focus on financial education is a cornerstone of its long-term regulatory strategy. These initiatives are closely aligned with the broader National Strategy for Financial Literacy and Financial Education in Cyprus. They also directly support the mandate of Thematic Working Group 4 of the Cyprus Financial Literacy and Education Committee (CyFLEC), which is chaired by CySEC.

For investors, firms, and the wider Cyprus market, this campaign serves as a timely reminder of the shared responsibility to uphold market integrity. By fostering a more financially literate populace, CySEC aims to build a robust defence against financial crime, safeguarding both individual investors and the reputation of Cyprus as a transparent, secure international financial centre.
